In 1954, Mom made her way into the world
Making a family of four, five by adding a little girl.
A curl here, a bang there, many hairdos she has had,
Over the years some whoppers – whew!
For some – maybe she should have tried a scarf instead?
Little Lesa grew, went to school, and to college, made her trek.
Mom and Dad married in ’77, after finding true love at VA Tech.
Her wedding day was lovely – hair included, Swedish crown, smile, and all
A fashionable lady she is, naturally, after all.
She made her dress, a beauty for a beauty, with love, care and attention.
My dad looked pretty snazzy too, in his fancy ruffled tux, did I mention?
In her 26th year, I was born…a little girl of her own, filled with glee.
In ’85, her 30th year, along came sweet Drew, making four of our little family of three.
Between the two babies, Lesa and Gene moved from Virginia to Myrtle Beach,
Leaving friends and family to start a new adventure, seeing dreams within their reach.
They’ve made many new friends along the way, adding richness to life.
But old friends they also hold so dear, love that couldn’t be cut with a knife.
In the throes of the ‘80s, some (YIKES) big hair sin she did commit,
But thankfully came back to her senses, smoothing things out, when the ‘90s hit.
The ‘90s also brought other changes to our little fam,
Career shifts for Mom and Dad, for Drew and Me – high school and college exams.
We’ve been through a lot together, Mom, Dad, Drew and Me,
The family keeps growing, adding Lauren, officially, in ’11,
Van soon in April, and don’t we dare forget, adorable grandbabies, Viv and Noli.
Today she turns 60, boy how the years have flown,
What an amazing lady we are so honored to have known.
She has touched us all: girl scouts, boy scouts, students, family and friends…
We can’t wait to make more memories – and see more hairdos –
And we hope you know, from the bottom of our hearts,
Our love for you never, ever ends!
I love you, Mom! Happy happy happy birthday!! Thank you for loving me, for everything you do for our family, and for being such a wonderful, kind, amazing woman.
