The Creative Home | A Rejuvenated Ranch on the Carolina Coast

Welcome to the Doane’s fabulously rejuvenated ranch home in Murrells Inlet, SC.

A little background: One of my oldest and dearest childhood friends lives here with her husband, their wee one, and their two pups. Growing up, she was always a style influencer, not only in my own life but in the lives of those around her. She has always had great taste. She and her husband are brand new parents to a precious little peanut of a daughter, whose room is probably one of my favorite rooms EVER. I remember when she was pregnant and sent me her mood board… I had so much fun designing the invitation for her baby shower that was inspired by the gold piggy bank you’ll see in a few moments.

Who lives here? April and Scott Doane, their daughter Dendy, and their Cane Corsos, King and Kloe.

When was it built? The house was built in the early seventies, and they recently took the interior down to the studs with the help of April’s Dad, and contractor, Ron.

When did you move in? April 2016

What’s your favorite room?

April: The Kitchen…no the nursery…can I pick both?

Scott: The porch, the dock, the backyard….outside?

Clearly they love their new home! 🙂

Any favorite items?

Scott: The paintings of the dogs in the nursery.

April: Can I say Dendy?

Me: (laughs) No, she’s not a thing.

April: Ok, our pictures…our memories

A favorite piece of furniture?

April: The hutch – wait, I take that back – the entry table, (laughs)… I bought it in college, but one of the legs was practically broken off, and my Dad fixed it – calling it junk – and he thinks we should have thrown it away. It has now somehow made it in all my houses since college. Oh, and the changing table – it was John’s and Amber’s and mine when we were babies, and we had it painted for Dendy’s nursery. So I think the changing table or the entry table. (John and Amber are April’s siblings)

Scott: The table on the porch turns into a poker table.

How would you describe your style? Farmhouse eclectic…I mean, I like what I like?

The front door opens to a great room, immediately to the left is the previously mentioned entry table, and to the right is the dining room table. Over the dining table hang two fabulous fixtures made of wine barrel rings. (SWOON). A few other tidbits about the home: The dining room fixtures are from Wine Country Craftsman on Etsy; he repurposes old wine barrels. Ummm yes, please.

Rotating to the right, we’re facing out towards the living room, sunroom, back porch, and inlet canal. Truly a PERFECT spot to live, relax, make a home, and raise a family.

(I took some of the pictures in the evening, and some in the morning, so pardon the lighting changes…)

The above cork collection is filling up a lamp base – a gift from Scott to April when they were dating. I love that each cork placed has a special sentiment recorded.

We’ll check out the porch later, but first let’s rotate around to face the kitchen.

How about those copper light fixtures?? April found them from a company out of London.

The hutch in the right hand side of the photo above was one of the photos April listed in her favorites list. Here’s a close up of part of it…are you noticing a pattern of piggies?

Behind the kitchen is the laundry room and garage, both spacious with plenty of storage.

Let’s pop back to the bedrooms before heading outside to the porch.

Down the hall there is one statement canvas, from their wedding day:

That door way all the way to the right is this lovely guest bath…

…conveniently across the hall from the guest room.

Peeking into the master bath and bedroom, we find a comfortable combo of neutrals with a splash of sparkle:

Love the black and whites in the bathroom (above) and especially this little sign on April’s dresser:

…and drumroll please, across the hall from the master is the nursery, which houses Scott’s favorite paintings and some of the cutest EVER nursery ideas, pattern combos, and just the perfect blend of adorable-ness for little Miss Dendy.

A couple of other notes before we pop in:

  • The rug is an old kilim rug dating back to the 1800s.
  • The changing table I previously mentioned, was custom painted along with the living room end tables, buffet, couch table, hutch, and the night stand in the baby’s room by Tami Oliver.
  • April DIY’d the pin board over the day twin bed using a homasote base covered in fabric and then added nail heads as décor. You can sneak a pic in one of the photos. I failed to get a great photo of it.
  • The beautiful large typography over the crib is from another Etsy vendor, House of Belonging.

Ok, enjoy!

Photos of the nursery, below, except the little shoe one I just had to add, all credit to Carmen Ash Photography.

How cute are those??

Bless.

Ok, for the grand finale, let’s head back out to the back…

I absolutely love the light and warmth in her sun room:

and this is just the best…such a perfect back porch and yard. A little slice of heaven.
