Meet spunky, creative, authentic, sassy, sincere, Sara. I should also add super talented.

I met Sara  last summer and immediately wanted to get to know her better. Her whole face lights up when she smiles, and she never meets a stranger. She has a confident sense of style, and she is easy to talk to. THEN I found out she was a wedding photographer AND she’s creative, talented, organized, and fun to be around.

Sara Touchet Photography is an Anderson based photography business owned by…three guesses, bet you only need one…yep, that’s right, Sara. She’s also the moderator for the Rising Tide Society’s Tuesdays Together group in Anderson.

What is your name? Sara Touchet

How old are you (if you are ok with sharing…totally optional)? I am 31.

In what city & state do you live? Anderson, South Carolina

Do you consider yourself to be creative? Yes, I do :). My precious mother was a creative and a problem solver, and I don’t think I ever had the option not to be as well. It is just a way of life.

What toys or activities were you drawn to as a child? I really liked making play dough, dressing up in my mother’s wedding dress, and coordinating parades with the neighborhood kids (all activities were done barefoot).

What inspires you? Wow, that is legitimately a difficult question. All these different things and people pop into my head. However, these are the top three:

  • Annie Lebovitz –she is a phenomenal photographer and doesn’t mind pushing the limits.
  • I am inspired by other creatives and really anyone working hard and chasing his or her dreams.
  • Weird, I know but… I am inspired by problems. Example: A woman that is feeling insecure and not beautiful. My mind goes on fire thinking of ways to help her see herself the way God intended and that the people who love her do.

Girl, I love that last answer for lots but two specific reasons:

  1. I’m pretty sure EVERY woman struggles with that plight at some point in her life. That’s a great way to approach your clients and selling your ‘product’.
  2. Problems DEFINITELY make us more creative – problem solving definitely takes creativity and critical thinking skills. No one has ever mentioned that before. GOLD STAR for you, gal!

What do you do for a living? I am a full-time wedding and portrait photographer.

Are you formally educated or self-taught? (or both)? I would say both. I went to Clemson University for a degree in secondary education English, but I took a couple of photography classes while in college. Everything else was trial and error, YouTube, and photographer’s blogs and courses.

How do you get un-stuck if you’re in a creative rut? I clean my house. It is true. Most creative needs a little bit of organized chaos to create, but others just need a clean simple place. I would fall into the latter category. Normally a blank space inspires me to fill it. In college, I would clean my entire apartment top to bottom before writing my papers. My roommate would come home and smell the Lysol and ask me if I had even started on my paper yet. Haha!  I call it productive procrastination, but somehow over the years it has become part of my creative process. I recently Marie Kondo-ed my whole house and I feel like the creative juices are on tap!

I love that! LOL.

How do you feel about your organization and time management skills? I feel pretty good about them. There are always ways to improve, but I feel like I have figured out a system that is productive but also allows time for rest.

What is rest? I’m not familiar with that. Could you clarify? HAHAHA I kid. I kid.

Do you have a routine? I have a loose routine. During the week: gym in the morning, errands, then breakfast and work in my office. I normally take a break around 2pm for lunch and then editing until dinner. Most weekends I am shooting, so I sometimes take half of Monday off to relax and cook for the week. Mondays are my favorite next to Saturday.

How do you deal with stress? The most productive way I deal is by cleaning my house and getting organized. I also like tacos… a lot.

If you have more to do than can fit in a typical day, do you get up earlier or stay up later? Oh, stay up late for sure! I feel like my brain comes alive at about 9pm.

How do you spend your time when you’re not working? I go to the gym, watch a lot of British crimes dramas; I am involved in Junior League, and I and my husband I really like traveling.

What’s one piece of advice you would tell your younger self? I would tell myself that everything comes in seasons. You don’t have to do the same thing forever. You change and what and how you create will change as well. Don’t fight it or feel guilty about it- welcome it.

Amen, sistah!!

And just for fun…

Favorite color? Gray …in fact my living room is just a whole bunch of different shades of gray. You can imagine what I call it.

Describe yourself in one word. Bubbly.

I feel like this needs some exclamation points to go with it…!!!! 😉

The last thing you ate was… a gluten free brownie

A favorite quote you want to share? This may not be my favorite one, but this one has been inspiring me in the new year:

“Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do, not punishment for what you ate.” – Women’s Health UK.

As a woman who has struggled with weight and anxiety my entire life, this quote has been the one I have focused on as I have dedicated myself to going to the gym 4-5 days a week since NYE. I now think of the gym in an entirely different way and have learned to love it. Now I am creating workout plans and looking for exciting plus size gym clothes. I am also working out with a couple of friends, one of which is a fellow creative. We bounce ideas off of each other and it has helped me in my business as well.

Do you have any party tricks? I like to ask fun questions at parties that require people to think. Like if you were on death row and had only one meal left, what would it be?

Ooooohhh, great question… hmmm… Probably something seafood…brussells sprouts, maybe a twice baked potato. Now I’m hungry. LOL.

Anything else you want to share that I didn’t ask about? This is your opportunity for a shameless plug. I have recently expanded my creativity to studio work as well as outdoor work. I am really inspired and excited about the opportunity to help women feel beautiful, powerful, and celebrated!
